I Found the Best New PRESCHOOL Homeschool Curriculum!

What if I told you there's a homeschool curriculum that can make teaching preschool 90% easier and 100% more enjoyable than most programs? Well, in this video, I'm going to show you the easiest and best homeschool kindergarten curriculum I've seen to date.

I've used many different preschool programs, online and offline, self-taught and video lesson taught, and this one I will share with you today is my favorite.

Why is it so good, and why do I guarantee you'll love the Footsteps for Fours curriculum?

Let me give you ten reasons, and you'll love the last one (it’s sooo funny).

not just video lessons

Firstly, if you're like me, you may have used a kindergarten program with only video lessons.

These tend to be less expensive, but your child doesn't always get to do much writing independently or develop manipulative skills, which should be a big part of a preschool homeschool curriculum.

BJU Press Footsteps for Fours (pictured below) includes video lessons, physical workbooks, and manipulatives.

This means your child gets to work alongside the teacher when the teacher asks them to color (or do whatever they're doing) instead of passively watching the lessons.

not just offline workbook lessons

In terms of stress reduction, I also like Footsteps for Fours because it takes the weight off your shoulders to do everything in a reasonable time frame.

I've used a homeschool curriculum where I have to teach from a teacher's manual—and it's painful!

Video lessons plus offline workbooks mean all you have to do is pause the program a few times, give your child the right workbooks for the day, and a few manipulatives, and you're done.

With this program, you get:

  • 2x packets of visuals and charts

  • an activity packet

  • a writing packet

  • flashcards with letters and numbers

  • video lessons.

Coffee time for you!

Phonics

Another reason this is one of the best preschool homeschool programs is that it gives your child an excellent introduction to Phonics—so they'll be way ahead of those kindergarteners next year!

Teaching phonics (the actual sounds of words) should be an integral part of every preschool curriculum, so starting early (so long as your child is keen) can be a great way to kick off a fun, formal educational experience that we hope will last a lifetime!

This program fosters a lifetime love of reading as children read many books, including The Gingerbread Man and other favorites.

Loads of hands-on craft are also incorporated into the curriculum and stories.

For example, yesterday, my daughter had to sequence the story and then fold the gingerbread man story into a booklet.

By the end of the program, your child will know small words!

Numbers

But maybe the second most important thing we want our children to learn is numbers.

Footsteps for Fours, which takes roughly 45 minutes a day, has two sections covering many subjects, including Phonics and Math.

By the end of this program, your child may be able to count to 100 and even make headway into simple mathematical concepts.

After all, who wouldn’t want to count to 100 when you can do it with jelly beans and licorice?

Lessons on Character

But kids don't just need to learn about reading and writing when educated.

They should learn about social norms and good character.

They get this in spades with the Footsteps for Fours program.

Mrs. Angie Snow (pictured below), who homeschooled her own children, continually teaches beautiful lessons on character that help children love each other.

Just the other day, my daughter learned about personal space—something I might not have thought to educate her on!

Biblical Worldview

But the most important thing to learn about as a human is the gospel.

I want my children to know Christ and make Him known because the gospel is the best news they'll hear in their lives.

BJU Press weaves the gospel and a biblical worldview throughout its Christian homeschool curriculum.

For example, today, Penny was learning about parents.

Part of learning about parents included thinking about Adam and Eve, the first parents on earth.

Penmanship

Next, have you ever been quietly disappointed at your child's inability to draw a straight line or stay within the lines?

Come on, parents, hands up.

I can't be the only one.

Footsteps for Fours encourages good penmanship and will slowly develop a steady hand in your child.

This will help them form letters and numbers in a smooth and visually pleasing way.

It will also help them do better coloring and help them get ready for kindergarten, making it easier for them.

Having a blended curriculum like Footsteps is much more fun than studying an online curriculum where kids don't get to draw or color at all!

Independent Work

Something else I love about all BJU Press material is that after children are about 7, they can almost wholly do the work themselves.

Independent learning starts in K4, and while mom or dad are needed to help with many things, preschoolers can do much of the setup and work themselves.

This will make for a more effortless homeschool experience with much less stress for mom and dad!

Parents Can Be Involved or Have a Cuppa

And I don't know if you're like me, but I have days where I want to be really involved with my child's work.

Other days, I am not well enough or too busy to sit with my preschooler the whole time.

Well, with this program, you can be as involved as you like.

You can sit next to them the whole time and encourage them, or you can clean the kitchen and mop the floor while your little one does their work at the kitchen table.

You do have to be within sight of your child while they do this program, though, because they may get stuck without you at times.

There's Wiggle Time

Something I haven't seen in any other homeschool program I've used has been my favorite feature of the whole program, and that is Wiggle Time.

Wiggle Time is an opportunity for children to get up and wiggle their sillies away so they can concentrate on the program.

I love it when my daughter enthusiastically pushes back her chair and starts wriggling around with vim.

And we all do it with her!

(You’ll have to watch the video for a hilarious visual of this!)

I feel like I've finally settled on a fun and stress-free homeschool program, Footsteps for Fours.

But I've made plenty of mistakes buying homeschool curriculum.

And I've learned a lot of lessons along the way.

To avoid making the mistakes I made, watch the video below on 7 things no one will tell you when buying homeschool curriculum.
